At Camp Excel, we focus on developing social skills and the social awareness necessary for better relationships with other children and adults.
About the Camp
How we operate
Our interactive groups are facilitated by Licensed Therapists and assist children in improving interpersonal skills. Through the use of therapeutic activities, games and role play, we focus on issues such as:

- Frustration Tolerance
- Cooperation
- Flexibility
- Appropriate Expression of feelings
- Reading Body Language
- Winning and Losing
- Eye Contact
Population We Serve: Children attending Camp Excel have social skill challenges. Many have been diagnosed with ADHD or Asperger’s Syndrome. The criteria is that children be high functioning, do not have significant cognitive delays and do not have aggressive or significant behavioral challenges.

Kathleen Cable, LPC
Kathleen Cable is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. She has over twenty years of experience in providing treatment for children with ADHD and Aspergers’s. In addition to developing and directing school based programs, social skill groups, parent groups and summer programs, Ms. Cable taught as an Adjunct Professor at Georgian Court University and maintains a private practice in Manasquan, NJ.

Kimberly Cable, LCSW
Kimberly Cable attained a Master’s Degree in Social Work at Rutgers University and is licensed by the state of New Jersey as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Kimberly has been working with children and families at Camp Excel since 2003. In the past, Kimberly was the Director of a Drop-Out Prevention Program in NYC and a Social Worker in the Children’s Crisis Unit at Monmouth Medical Center. Kimberly currently runs a Homeschool Co-op.

Maureen Cable
Maureen Cable has been dedicated to the Camp Excel Program since 2003. Maureen has a background in psychology and directs all aspects of the program including enrollment, supervision of staff, program development and contact with families. Maureen has past experience working with children and families at an intensive outpatient program, special needs summer programs, social skills groups and in a private setting with special needs children.

Younger groups: 9:30am-11:00am
Older groups: 11:15am-12:45pm
Group Session Fees
$1,035 for nine 90 minute groups payable in nine weekly $115 payments.
Evaluation fee: $160
Fees for our groups may be reimbursable by your Health Insurance Company as an out-of-network benefit. Parents should contact their insurance company to verify benefits.
Enrollment Process:
To apply to the Camp Excel Programs parents should first contact our Director, Kathleen Cable by phone (732-282-0150). From information provided by parents it can be determined if the child might benefit from the program. Next, an evaluation appointment will be made with Ms. Cable to meet with the child and the parents. If it is agreed that this is an appropriate placement and that the program will meet the child’s needs, the child can be enrolled. A non-refundable deposit will hold a place for the child. If your school district or other funding source will be making payment we must have a commitment letter before a place will be held.
